8:07 pm - don't worry be happy
|
i read an article yesterday about how to raise your disposition from a bad mood to a great one, and one piece of advice is gave was to list five good things that happen to you every day, i guess to help you be greatful for the good things that happen to you every day. they did a study with three seperate groups of people; one group listed things that bothered them each day, one listed events (the good, the bad, the mundane), and one listed 5 things that they were glad happened to them each day. it looked like doing that offered the "greatful list makers" some sort of self reassurance, because their moods became visibly more pleasant. makes sense to me, thinking hard about the good things that happen to you every day most likely force you to think about only those good things and help you forget about the bad or boring.
so i wonder, what happened to you today?

7:07 pm - UFC in fort lauderdale
|
last night at our show in fort lauderdale, FOUR fights broke out during our set. that's right, FOUR. what is wrong with some people, seriously. the whole point of going to a show is never supposed to be about picking a fight with someone, no matter how much you don't like them. it's supposed to be about going to see a band you like play some songs you like, hanging out with your friends and the bands afterwards, and having a good time. it kills me when we're in the middle of a song and i have to see some dude being carried out of the show because someone punched him in the face and broke his nose.
does anyone remember a few years ago when they went to shows at the vfw's and it was just about friends hanging out on a friday night and seeing each others bands play? it was all about getting together and having a good time singing songs. when stuff like this happens, clubs, community centers, vfw's stop having shows, and then there's no where for bands to come play shows. don't ruin it for everyone else because you think the best thing to do is flex your muscles when something doesn't go your way. don't be a tough guy, just enjoy yourself.

sorry it's been so long since i wrote. tour is fun, the bands we are out with right now are all awesome dudes and great bands. it took a few days for everyone to finally get in the groove of things but by the show the other night everything went great and everyone is getting along great. i've been taking a lot of pictures and posting them over at www.friendsorenemies.com so if you have a second go over there and check them out and leave a comment.
right now we are in orlando. it's hot, today was an off day, our bodies are all catching up to being back on the road. i miss home a little and some people from home more but for now this feels right. not much else to update, florida is fun. i'm getting some sun. peace and love

like when you want to sing from rooftops and also just want to stay in all day. like when you're so happy you feel sad at the same time. like you feel so hopeful it's hopeless. like when you want to reach out and touch but you have to keep your hands to yourself. like when you say too much but you've really said nothing at all.

2:03 am - hug your mom
|
i just walked into my house. we drove from 9 pm last night in kansas city, mo until 12:30 am right now to my house without stopping because everyone was so ready to get home. the last few days of warped were crazy, hot, and dusty. i rode a roller coaster in buffalo, went to walmart in toronto, and in montreal sean from big d taught me how to spin a wheel. in st. louis we saw old friends, and in kansas city i watched all the bands i hadn't seen yet while on the tour. in buffalo, our driver realized he left his license in boston, so we had to wait around for a new guy to come and pick up where he had to get off. rusty was our first driver, he was a character. jim was our second driver, he said about two words total to everyone (not a character). i will miss the nice days (weather and getting to see old friends), as will i miss our busmates, biffy clyro, and the ton of other bands we got to see again after a long time. i won't miss the heat or the early waking up. getting to eat and shower whenever i want will be a plus too. tomorrow i will see superbad. i am mclovin.

tour is fun. today we have off, and it's the first time i've been on internet that actually moved in almost a week. we have off today, we're in indianapolis already. last night we were leaving englishtown, new jersey. that's a lot of miles in one night/morning drive. a lot's happened on this tour, since there's always something going on during the day and most of the night, but highlights include:
getting to hang out at the metrodome in minneapolis seeing the simpsons movie on the first day off with jeff spitalfield playing cincinatti for the first time in 2 years the hurricane in cleveland when we almost didn't get to play because the stage was almost destroyed and of course, philly, nyc, and jersey and getting to see some friends from home while we keep up on this tour.
we'll be home soon for a little bit, then headlining again soon. time to do my wash.

5:04 am - i get a little down on myself
|
the end of tour is always so tough. especially when it's only two weeks long. we came into this tour knowing the permanent me dudes, but i feel like we just got to know the dudes in forever the sickest kids and self against city. i'll miss SAC but at least we'll get to see the sickest kids on warped. that will be a lot of fun. we start warped tour on thursday, and i couldn't be more excited about any tour ever. so many of our friends are out on that tour, it's going to be like a big family reunion.
i'm only going to be home for a couple of days. i wish it was enough time to tell you the truth, we'll see if i can suck it up. a new text message every night will keep this one alive.
peace, see you on warped.

does it put words in your mouth or open up a vault? a real-life truth serum.
either way, you always end up wishing you had a rewind/erase button on your life the next day. or just hope that whoever you were with will be kind enough to not bring up the touchy stuff later on. i wonder if what you said really was true or if you just had one too many.
i had a time machine last night but i was really no better than a thief.

i can't wait for tour. it's like a second chance every day.

sun's out. security would check the bags under my eyes. sleep's been pretty rare for me these days, i guess that's what happens when all you know for sure is that nothing you know is ever certain. no one knows anymore how far a compliment will take someone, i guess that's why they're always so few and far between. i guess lately it's in to be negative. stay posi, it will save you an ulcer. i promise.
i want to touch success but i'm afraid it will burn my fingertips.
sorry i haven't posted anymore pictures. my camera's mostly full of video right now, i'm sure you'll see it soon.
goodnight.

we've been posting a lot of bulletins and blogs on our bands myspace about this headlining tour we're doing next month with self against city, permanent me, and forever the sickest kids. there are presale links up on our myspace, as well as an admat with all the dates and some awesome looking art thanks to marky from glamour kills. this is the first time we're getting to do an entire tour where we get to do as much as possible with our show, and it's going to be a lot of fun to see all our friends all over the place while we do it.
if you're from philadelphia and you're bummed we didn't get to add a hometown date, please come to either the allentown or wilmington dates. we'll see you guys for sure at warped tour in august, and after that we'll have some more surprises for everyone once we get closer to our cd's release. until then, please come say what up to us at the closest show to you, we'll make it up to you soon, i promise.

12:33 am - together we can burn this place down
|
it's been a little while. i finished tracking bass last week, jd and brendan started guitars and as of tonight it looks like the rhythm tracks are done. they played around with some acoustic stuff, and tomorrow they will start clean parts and leads. shane's also starting vocals tomorrow, soon they'll be whole songs. i got to hear some parts shane was working on with robnett for one of the newest songs we did, it sounds really awesome. we really have something special coming out here, i can't wait for everyone to hear it.
other than studio time, there've been a few other things going on. my cousin got married on saturday. it was good to see some of my family again, i always miss all the holiday dinners and birthdays because of being on tour. i don't think i've seen most of my family since christmas, maybe even before that. i really look up to everyone in my family, they all in some way or another have made something out of nothing and sometimes it makes me nervous following in their footsteps but i'm trying my best to end up the same way. i suppose that's why i'm doing what i do right now. to me it seems like my best shot at being something special and building it from the ground up.
oh, and i feel like i let a friend down today. i hated that.

oh hey. we started recording a new cd last week. max tracked all of his drums at water music in hoboken, new jersey last week, so we got to do a lot of hanging out in the control room, mapping songs, picking tempos, buying food at shop rite, watching movies and tv shows on websites, jd and i went out a couple of times in new york city, and max played his drums forever. now that's done and there've been a few days for matt and nik and everyone to edit the drums with all the samples and drums are pretty much done. today i started recording my bass parts at big sky audio in springfield, pennsylvania. we spent a few hours getting a sweet tone, and then started tracking some songs. i'm writing this while rich (the man) loads the EQ's from other songs into the last one i'm tracking tonight so we can get started on that, and then everyone can go home and go to bed. tomorrow we'll get here at around noon and do it all over again until i'm done recording bass. the songs are starting to come together, it sound awesome so far. when i'm not recording, i've been playing with my camera and taking pictures, maybe i'll put some on here eventually. ok it's time to do this song, word life.

10:09 am - this is worship and this is tribute
|
maybe one day i'll write a real story here because one liners just don't do anything for anyone.
bamboozle was cool, festivals always give you this sense of empowerment when you play, seeing so many people watching, singing along. i always worry something like that will take away from the intimacy of our show, since whenever you can see us play, it's always in a small club, but yesterday everything felt perfect.
the signing was fun, it was good to meet a bunch of new people and see old friends. walking around backstage, it was good to see so many of the people we've toured with this last year. i didn't get to see any bands play really, i went to watch some of boys like girls before we backlined, and then new atlantic, but other than that, it was just a really busy day with a lot to do.
today i'm at home, we were going to go to the show again today, but decided to come back and get some rest before pre production starts up again tomorrow. tonight i get to go see pfunkt, drew hawthorne, and sean lee play finally, and i've been meaning to see all three of those guys play forever, so i'm happy.
